G.D. first interviewed Glenn Doman, in
Melbourne, Australia, for New Zealand radio and television in 1974; he has studied the
Doman method in action in Australia, New Zealand and especially at The Institutes for the
Achievement of Human Potential in Philadelphia, in 1988 (for one week), 1989 (for one
week), in 1990 (during a three-day television recording session) and during the
preparation of this book (1992). Dryden has yet to meet one published critic of Doman who
has actually visited The Institutes or studied his work at first hand. In fact, one highly
qualified professor, and the leader of a model school, interviewed for this book, publicly
criticized Doman's methods while admitting to using them extensively. |

Burton L.White, The First Three Years Of
Life, Prentice Hall (1986). Note that, while this is an excellent book overall, many
other child-development specialists disagree with Dr. White on the use of "baby
bouncers" and "walkers". Dr. White correctly recommends that these should
not be used for more than 15 minutes at a time; others say that any use of them encourages
some parents to use them as "baby sitters", and prolonged use can cause
developmental problems, particularly if they are used as a substitute for the important
neurological stage of crawling. |
