Checklist for new mothers

Nearly all the active brain cells a child will ever have are present by birth.

A well-nourished fetus during pregnancy will develop an average of 250,000 new brain cells every minute.

Smoking, alcohol and drugs can severely affect that brain-growth.

Poor diet during vital periods can cause lifelong learning disabilities.

Eat plenty of fish, green-leaf vegetables, fruit, nuts and vegetable oil.

Have a banana a day when pregnant, for potassium and folic acid.

Iron- and zinc-rich foods are essential for baby's brain-growth.

Breast-feed if possible-to add the vital "coating" to the main brain cells.

After birth, make sure to get baby's hearing and eyesight checked regularly.
